Kea II
- Fine Art Print
- Canvas Print
The kea is a native New Zealand bird. It’s also known as the New Zealand mountain parrot – the only true alpine parrot in the world. Kea are currently an endangered species.
They are intelligent and mischievous! While at a cafe at Arthurs Pass, this parrot helped itself to left over food on the table, knocking the ceramic plates and glassware off the table with his beak, causing the dinnerware to smash all over the ground. A regular and annoying occurrence for the cafe owners.
They’re also notorious for attacking cars if they get the chance – yanking on aerials and pecking at the rubber around car doors. This parrot had a good old peck at the handlebars of a patron's motorbike that was parked outside the cafe.

Handle with Care - Please handle your prints with care and avoid scratching or overly rubbing or touching the surface. To keep your prints looking great, they must be handled with care using gloves and preferably framed or displayed right away. Oils from your fingertips can mark black prints easily. It is recommended for black prints to be opened and framed by a professional. Attempting to open and re roll the print to put back in the tube can damage your print.
Framing
We offer a simple, contemporary moulding designed to complement both modern and classic interiors. Frame colours available include White, Black, and Wood Grain. If you have a specific colour in mind, please feel free to get in touch.
Each frame is handmade and arrives with your artwork professionally mounted, framed, and ready to hang.
For shipped orders, we use high-quality archival acrylic, a premium alternative to glass used widely in homes, galleries, and museums. Acrylic provides excellent clarity while being significantly stronger and lighter than traditional glass, making it the safest option for shipping and long-term display.
Glass framing is available by request for customers able to collect from select framing locations. Please contact us prior to ordering if this is your preference.
White Border Option
You have the option to include a white border around your artwork. This does not increase the overall size of the print. Instead, the image area is slightly reduced to allow space for the border while maintaining the selected print dimensions.
Borders can create a beautiful gallery-style presentation and allow the artwork to breathe within the frame.
Reflection & Glass Options
Due to their deep tonal range, darker and black-and-white prints can show more reflection when framed behind standard glazing.
To minimise reflection, we can provide at additional cost UltraVue® UV70 anti-reflective glass for framed prints up to 40 x 30 inches - please email for more information of cost.. This premium glass offers exceptional clarity with a virtually invisible surface, allowing the artwork to be viewed without distraction.
For larger sizes, standard archival acrylic is used unless UltraVue® glass is specifically requested and available for collection.
If reflection is a concern, canvas is an excellent alternative, offering a completely non-reflective finish while maintaining exceptional depth and detail.
Canvas Prints
Not all canvas prints are created equal. Each By The Horns canvas is produced using museum-grade archival canvas and fine art inkjet printing to faithfully reproduce every detail and tone of the original photograph.
The canvas is finished with a protective lacquer to guard against moisture, UV exposure, and surface wear.
Each piece is professionally stretched over a solid timber frame and arrives ready to hang.
Canvas provides a beautifully soft, non-reflective finish and is particularly well suited to darker works.
Floating frames are also available, offering a refined, gallery-style presentation.
