This surfer captured my attention. Looking out into the ocean ahead of him, I wonder what was going through this mind at this time.

Edit:

I would like to share with you a bit more about this print ‘St Clair Surfer,’ please read on.. 🙏🏼

Today ( a couple years later) I received an email from the surfer himself! Of course I never swam after him to get his name or anything, there were hundreds of surfers out that day. So the surfer remained a mystery.

This is what his email said:

“Ata mārie ki a koe!

Kia ora, so I am the surfer in the picture! Hahha I love it. You ask what I was thinking, I would have been saying a karakia to my tīpuna (ancestors) I always do before I paddle out. Also if you wanted to know, our name for St Clair beach is – Whakahekerau. She was a Waitaha woman, who married a local Kāti Māmoe Chief Tūwiriroa. “

This has blown my mind and makes this print even more special! He said it was his friend that saw the print and recognised him in the photo!

Wonderful Happenstance

Excellent communications throughout given COVID levels. I was looking through sites and noted a picture of my son. I had to buy it. A great reflective piece.
